I’ve been a fan of Oddball Cartoonist Scott Shaw! for about as long as I have been able to read. In the mid 70s, I discovered comic books and the squeaky spinner rack at my local Standard Drug store. I loved the classic Hanna Barbera cartoons and was disappointed that the previously available comic book versions of those great cartoons lacked the “fun” that the animated versions had, but one day, in between my beloved Fantastic Four, Captain America, and Marvel Two In Ones, I found new comics featuring HB characters published by Marvel! MARVEL!In those books I saw the characters and art rendered with what my young mind could only suppose was the same love and respect that I had for them, and the art credits on the best stories all had the same name: “Scott Shaw!” Complete with exclamation point.Over the years, I was lucky enough to befriend Scott, talk at length about the stuff we both love, and Scott even invited me to hang out BEHIND his table at SDCC (and joke with his booth neighbor Sergio Aragonés, a treat any time it happens.).Scott’s work is so fun, and so well executed, and I’m so happy that this new collected anthology of his work arrived today. I can’t wait to dig in.If you’re an oddball and you dig masterful cartooning and a weird sense of humor, get his book.
